Hello everyone.

I am looking to replace the Practica SLR I recently bought with an SP1000, or possibly an MX. I want a small selection of fixed lenses, none of which I have bought yet.

The only problem is finding a good one. I don't mind paying for something that works well, but eBay descriptions all say things like"worked fine when we last used it in 1996". And nowhere local sells film cameras anymore. I don't want to spend on an unknown quantity.

Can anyone give any tips on finding a decent older Pentax? I thought about buying one and posting it to Harrow Technical for a service. Is that my best bet? Or are there some physical shops where I could try a couple and get a meaningful guarantee? I live in Derbyshire.

And are there any other Pentax SLRs I should consider? I want metered manual and a depth of field preview. M42 or K mount would be fine.
