Must be, my DA*16-50mm has had the motors crap out for the second time. About to become an expensive paper weight.

Why on earth would you want to scrap an optically superb lens just because the SDM is notoriously unreliable? Convert it to screw drive and have no further problems.

Just to pick up on the Op's wish list
1.I'm jolly happy with the capabilities of my K3iii but I would like a flippy screen. I have kept my K-S2 for just that reason.
2.Why would Pentax be interested in mirrorless at this point in time?
3.I had a K1000, never struck me a something special, switch your current camera to M, what's the difference? Now a digital MX would be attractive but not a functional replacement for my K3iii
4. Why on earth would Pentax make an adapter for other people's lenses? to say nothing of all the registration distance issues
5. There are numbers of people who offer the screw drive change for most SDM failure lenses, and again what would be Pentax's motivation to do this?

For now, I would be happy for my K1 to come away from the "Its a great landscapers camera tag ". Improving its movement capabilities, Having a far better focusing system. Faster frames per second, faster download speed to meet the more modern SD cards. Eye tracking, Auto focus stacking. Nothing unusual. Just what the rivals already have..

Being an avid Pentax camera and lens user I thought I would suggest a topic for discussion that might get back to the Pentax marketing department.
Personally I do not see me investing in a new film camera, I already have two older functioning excellent film cameras. Nor would I want an AFC camera whose claim to fame is an improved view finder or one that only takes black and white images. I gave up black and white years ago once I could afford color film and processing. I would wish for with no particular order
1. An AFC sensor camera that incorporated the features of the K1, third multi selector knob, built in GPS, illuminated controls and an articulated viewing screen.
2. A mirrorless K1 with improved updated electronics.
3. A digital K1000, that offers all of the manual controls of the K1000, the same size camera but with a digital sensor and updated electronics.
4. An Adapter that would allow me to attach and use the modern third party lenses to my existing Pentax cameras.
5. A software update for my K3 and K1 that would allow me to use the camera screw driver autofocus system for lenses with SMC motors.

1. Do you mean APS-C?
2. Why would people buy such a camera when it doesn't have a viewfinder or has an electronic viewfinder but still the registration distance (and therefore size) of a DSLR?
3. Simply not possible due to the thickness of the sensor and associated electronics. The nearest is the Nikon ZF but that's mirrorless.
4. Not possible in most cases without corrective optics that would massively downgrade the IQ.
5. Now this one actually seems realistic

I would have thought that it would be possible in firmware. For example, when a lens with dual autofocus (SDM or Screwdrive) is fitted ,a menu option that allows choice of method of AF could be available. It could be as simple as switching off SDM, which would mean a default back to screwdrive. It must be akin to what they did in reverse with the 1.30 firmware on the K10. For a lens with single method of autofocus the menu option could be simple greyed out.
Further once they figure it out, I would have thought, that it would be possible to update firmware for older models K10, K5 ect. It may also have the addon benefit of extending the life of older SDM motors.
It may not help with the sale of new equipment, but it would be a great gesture by Ricoh.

If only the world of software were as straightforward as that. What looks to be a simple change from the outside might require a huge redesign and rewriting of the software. And that would introduce new bugs which we'd find after its release and Pentax would be hammered by people who used to have a good camera but their favourite feature no longer works properly. Then the physical processor, memory etc. limits the size and complexity of the software that can reasonably run on it. How much more can be squeezed onto the ancient (well, semi-ancient) hardware in the K10, K5 etc? There's also the people side of things to consider. Who in Pentax is still around who is familiar with the intricate internals of the 20-year old software? I've been involved with a project like that (not photographic), nobody knew what half of the software was doing, everyone who did had retired or moved on.
No, it ain't gonna happen for those grand old cameras.
But back to what I would wish for. The answer is that I don't wish for anything for me, photographically or otherwise. I learned many years ago that wishes usually aren't fulfilled and hopes are dashed all too frequently. Better and happier to simply appreciate what you've got and be grateful if something better comes your way. That's seems to work OK for me even if it isn't the way of the world .
