What to expect from the new 1.4x TC?

£399 - personally I think that is over priced.

SRS price £379.

Personally I want to see how well it works with my DA* 50-135mm/60-260mm/300mm before I start shouting "too expensive". If it retains sharpness/IQ and is fully reporting then I will be very tempted, and as Algi said, it must be expensive producing what will be a very niche product.

If it works well with the FA* 250-600mm f5.6 then that would be a bonus but I see they are not listing the FA lenses as compatible.

If it's reporting with Sigma's HSM lenses then I may even be second in the queue.

At £399 they could almost include a FREE Camera

People asked for it so I can't see how they can complain
about the price! Making a small number of TC's
is expensive

Same with FF if they ever bring it out it won't be cheap!

And it has been promised since the days of the K10D ... so why will it not be compatible?

They will probably sell more of these in a year than the DA*300.
It probably will work with a K10D up to a certain point. I always
found the K10D metering a problem with TC's and could never understand
what caused it. I think the K20D was the same.

I used to always do a few test shots to set the exposure with
most TC's. (Still do on the K-5 )

The 1.4X-S worked well with the K10D and is a 5 element design
so it's probably sharper, but MF. At least you can put the correct
FL in

They bought the company and the historical product ranges ...which includes the K10D K20D &c. They still provide downloads of firmware and manuals for the older ones.

Never a problem with the 2X-S with my DA*300.

All that is needed is a minor firmware tweak to allow for the TC ... they are doing it for the other bodies and the core code uses a lot of the same modules so why not an update and re-compile?

At least Ricoh are continuing to support the older Pentax range with firmware updates. Samsung are not doing that the with GX20 and earlier GX models, one can't even download the last firmware update they provided now, let alone any new ones.

I'm guessing the firmware on the k-7 will he very similar to the k-5 due to their physical similarities.

The physical similarities are the same for sure but I think inside the K20D was more like the K-7 than the K-5.

Anyway, I presume there must be more to it ... (maybe there is no room in the K10D/K20D internal memory to take the firmware upgrade).
