What is CTE?

Posted 26/06/2012 - 10:22 Link
I am gradually trying to get to grips with the subtleties of digital photography and the myriad of features that my K-r provides. At the moment I am learning about white balance. I think I now understand what the auto setting does, when to use the various presets like "tungsten", "cloudy" etc., and how to set it using the "manual" setting.
But I am baffled by "CTE" or "colour temperature equivalent". The manual is a little oblique. It is my impression that it is advising this setting if you want to make a colour cast stronger rather than weaker, but this seems to make little sense and to do no more than manually fine tuning the white balance "wrongly".
Can anyone enlighten me as to the proper use of this setting?
Thanks.
