... is this battery grip for?

Kris - looks like something I picked up on fleebay a year or so ago. Think it's for the SFX/SKXn - certainly for that series but I can't nip next door to my odds n sods box to check....

Not a very common item.

I have one Kris. It's for the SFX as Steve says and allows you to use the 2CR5 batteries instead of AA's, it doesn't make the camera any larger, its just a different battery compartment.

It's the standard SFX/SFXn grip. Pentax offered a slightly larger one to take 4 AAs as an optional extra, so it looks as though someone put the original grip in the box from the AA one and never swapped them back.

I have both and can take some photos of the SFX with the AA grip fitted if desired, it makes the grip about 3-4mm wider.

I have both also and thought they were the same size, after reading your post I checked it, and of course, you are right.

Strange - I have had an SFXn from new and it came with the 2CRS without any other option. Is anybody going to buy the thing - I could do with it the rubber grip has slightly worn...

The 2CR5 grip was the standard part supplied with the SFX/SFXn, Pentax offered two optional alternative grips: one for AAs and one giving a remote battery pack which also took AAs. Presumably the latter was intended to allow you to keep the batteries warm for cold weather shooting.

You can see the difference here - the AA grip is more angular and sticks out further. Due to the SF series being heavy, chunky cameras it doesn't make much difference to the weight or handling!

I think that's in a bit better condition than mine! Also just realised that the rubber grip is not part of the battery cover. Maybe I can find a spre somewhere.
Was the spoon and fork an optional extra

The reviews when it was launched said it looked 'Military'. I thinkk it was (is) a great performer?

The spoon and fork are what happen when you have some nifty halogen downlighters above the kitchen worktop and think "hmm, good place for close-ups of small items..."

I'll be able to comment on performance after another 26 shots, but in purely tactile terms I have to say I prefer my MX. The SFX is a monster of a camera, bigger than my K-m or even my original '70s KM. To me, using film is an excuse to use those wonderful mechanical bodies with manual focus and at least some intervention being required to ensure a decent result.

Hi DM - How are you finding the SFXn??

Mine's the plain SFX rather than the n model, and I still haven't finished the film. Thing is, with film (especially slide) I tend to wait for a definite occasion to use it rather than just taking the camera with me in case anything interesting turns up, as I do with the K-m. So far on that roll I have a few landscapes and some shots of garden birds, I'll be interested to see how the latter come out as I was using the big 100-300mm zoom hand held and obviously you don't get SR on film!
