What are these please

Can anyone identify this plant please. There was a field almost full of them. Not sure if they are grown for "green" manure or harvested? This is a crop from a larger image sorry about the quality

I've always called it Pink Campion, but it seems many people call it Red Campion. I've never seen it cultivated deliberately - it grows in all the ditches round here.
From that fount of all knowledge, Wikipedia "Besides the aesthetic value of its flowers, the crushed seeds of red campion have also been used to cure snakebites" .

Never heard that either - could be useful round our way though .... lots of adders around

Yes most campion is pink. I have a red variety in my garden known as Russian Campion (Lychnis Molten Lava.) Because some flowers of the Campion are shaped like a cross and the Russian Campion is bright red, it is sometimes called the Jerusalem cross. Even though it is thought to originate from Russia.
