My Canon MP 600 printer (/scanner/copier) has just given up the ghost, bows head in respect.......

What to buy as a replacement, on a budget?
I was always pleased with the mp600, so it's Canon for me. (Sorry about the bad language, but it's only a printer....).

Any advice, tips, knowledge you can impart, given the parameters, will be most gratefully received.

Thanks,

Coker.

I've the IP4500 and i believe it use precisely the same inkt and is not that different from the MP600.
It is replaced by the IP4600 but that one use more expensive cartridges...

Epson is also very good, so worth a look as well.

Anyone know anything of Canon MG 6150?

Looks to have what I need & to be a suitable replacement for my (late) mp600.

Thanks,

Coker.

I also have the Canon IP4500 and it is excellent. Discontinued long ago and I think the IP4600 is as well. Looks like the current model is the IP4850.

My MP810 has been a bit dodgy for a while, to the point where I was looking at replacements. Was getting stripes on prints.

I didn't realize you can buy replacement print heads on ebay for under £50. A bit too much of a chunk of a new printer to be rushing in.

However after soaking the old print head in IPA with a dash of washing up liquid and squirting IPA down the feed holes and then running the deep clean and printing a couple of things ..... it seems to be OK again. And running it on original carts not some cheapo compatibles.

The other IPA. Isopropyl Alcohol.
I wouldn't waste good ale, I'd find a drinker to drink it.

The problem with my mp600 is a mechanical one.
The error no. denoted a broken drive belt (to bring the cartridges across for changing, I think).

The Man In The Shop says the belt has just come off, but the wheel it has come off of is broken & a replacement will be a "big job" versus a new printer. (I trust the man in the shop, a local, independent seller of all things printers, who does a v. good re-fill of "Canon" inks which I've used for years).

I do need a printer/copier/scanner.

Roger, perhaps consider going up the MP series line to whatever is current now?

I have the MP990, now about 2 years old, and very happy with it (and it does the copy and scan for No 1 daughter's homework). It was our first C*n*n printer, and probably the best we've had.

Roger,
Have a look at the Kodak ESP range, cheap ink and have some good reviews.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone.
I think it's going to be the Canon MG 6150. Pretty well the equivalent of the MP600, but with duplex printing & wireless too!

Thanks again,

Roger.
