Last week I had to drive the family the near 600kms to Wenzhou (from Shanghai). The drive itself was pleasant enough and took us through some nice scenery (Shanghai is very very flat) across the longest bridge in the world (42kms/26.4 mls) and then up through the mountain ranges to Wenzhou (I've done this trip by coach ... 25 years ago ... when there were few roads and it was 18 hours of torture, and also by boat .. which no longer runs .. and took 24 hours).

My wife had business to attend to so I took our adult children up into some of the mountains around the city for the views and to see some ancient villages. The weather was pretty lousy, very overcast and occasional downpours, but it was interesting none-the-less.

Anyway if you enjoy these then there are more here : http://frogfish.smugmug.com/Other/Wenzhou-Zhejiang/18324886_8xRQ82#1410979676_76FjMmM

Hope you enjoy looking at these !

A great place to photograph. Shame the light was so flat: rather English, in a way. The light, I mean.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Thank you Tim - glad you enjoyed the set.

Cheers Snappy - appreciated. It really is lovely (and very very large !) once you get out of the cities into the real China.

Thanks for your comments Andrew - yes, it really was UK-like weather !

Hi. Nice pictures of some lovely scenery. I hope to be travelling on my bicycle soon (maybe going Beijing - Vietnam. I know, it will take some time!) so it is always nice to be inspired.

Mind if I ask: I need to replace some recently stolen kit, would it be cheaper to buy from Shanghai than UK or Europe? Looking at maybe a K5 + 1 prime (da 35 macro or da 40mm).

The link to Smugmug is not working btw.

Thanks for the tip on the link. I can't go back to edit it but this should work : link

I've found prices in Shanghai to be quite a bit (10-20%) lower than in the U.K. for new gear, and have bought nearly all my cameras / new lenses here. p.m. me if you are going to be in Shanghai otherwise there are plenty of places in BJ to buy gear (check it before you leave Denmark though) !

Thanks! I might get in touch if I end up in your neighbourhood. I asked because Hong Kong prices seem significantly lower. Looking at your signature I was thinking I could borrow a body and a couple of lenses - you wouldn't even notice

I could spend a whole day just shooting the fantastic three chaired raft in #4.

Stunning location.

I'd love to see some close shots of details of this wonderful country. #3 of the farmer in #5is approaching the kind of thing

Many of the pics in your link..

HK is not all that much cheaper than China (and often not at all) because they are catering to the tourist trade. I've found that prices in China are sometimes even cheaper than the USA (when I bought my K7 here in Shanghai it matched the cheapest on-line price I could find in the USA). It does depend on what you are looking for though. New prices tend to be higher than the USA but cheaper than Europe whereas used prices are generally higher here that either.

Thanks Gareth - yep the country is extremely large but if you get off the beaten tourist path then it's amazing. There's just so much to see.

Thanks for uploading those shots Smeggy and I'm very pleased you took the time to browse & enjoy the portfolio !

Nice scenic pictures, but the light does not do much for them. I would be inclined to "cheat" and use Topaz adjust or similar to get more out of them. #5 looks really good though, no doubt because it was taken at a shorter distance. A great portrait of rural life, and the composition is spot on.

Of the ones that Smeggy linked to, I really like the water buffalo, though it's a slight shame one of his feet is missing.

Thank you AG - but yes when it was pouring down have the time it was tough to get the light. Buffalo - unfortunately it was a case of screech to a halt as I came round a bend and try to get the shot out the window before they walked past - I missed a bit
