Went somewhere I hadn't been before ..........

Went off my usual track on saturday to a place where a Kingfisher has been seen quite frequently lately. As luck would have it, it decided not to visit

Here are some consolation photos I took with the K5 and Sigma 150-500. The blue tit is a bit soft, but it was a fair distance away and very small for focusing, but I do like the reflection.

Then on Sunday when coming back from the squirrels I took this one. Its a big crop so lacks a bit of detail

If I can get close to this standard with the new toy Alan - I will be a very happy man. Particularly like the yellow hammer - have never managed to get close enough to even attempt one of these.

Nice set

No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

Great set Alan.
Do you use a mono or tripod for this lens?

Tried a monopod once, but found I prefer to use it handheld. On all but the last of these I was in a hide, so had the option of resting it on the window ledge, although I normally only do that to rest between shots.

I don't generally find the weight of the lens a problem. Exceptions to this were squirrel shots I've taken when pointing up in the trees, and also trying to capture swifts and swallows last summer. Then it did feel heavy.

Nice shots

All this talk of 150-500's is endangering 'her' chances of the new dishwasher she wants - I suppose in turn it may also be endangering my dangly bits
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

Have you not got a kitchen sink in your house, that was made for dishes and fairy liquid for hands that do dishes.

9 Years ago she wanted the diswasher and I didn't - she won then and I guess now its knackered she will win again

I need to keep her hands for other things

We have two sinks for stuff to be emptied into prior to going into the dishwasher

Lovely pictures!!
Just a question for you, do you find the focus speed on the K5 faster with the 150-500 than you did with that lens on your Kx ?,that is meaning the actual speed the lens motors from close to infinity.
I wondered as the voltage that I've read the K5 battery puts out is 7.2v ,Where with the Kx with lithium AA's it would only be at 6v and probably Eneloops only 5.5v.
I have a Kx and 150-500 and feel that it is faster with lithium AA's than Eneloops and was after a second opinion. Maybe with possible thoughts of an upgrade to a K5 eventually

*flicks hair back and walks away* *I'd be happy to see ONE of those birds on any of my walks*

Another lovely set. I did see a flock of Yellowhammers last year - they were very easy to spot by all of the CaNikon big guns lined up shooting them !

Hi Patty. The focus on the K5 is faster than the Kx. Its the main reason I upgraded. I don't use my Kx now, which is a shame because its a great little camera
