I certainly seem to have chosen a popular subject, I do believe this must be a record number of entries, lucky me!

After putting the rest of my life on hold I have managed to consider and analyse each entry, forgive me if I repeat myself a bit!
I did give you a clue in ‘sock it to me’ by which I meant lots of motion, the results are influenced by this, WELL DONE to ONE AND ALL…

worn out Lilly!

StrawberryBeret: Potentially a good subject, lots of motion in bumper cars but is diluted by fact that both cars and background are OOF. Panning with subject or focusing on background would have been more effective.

John Riley: Immediately I saw this I loved it, it is very painterly and is so very different, however, if there had been some area of focus on the great tit, it would have been a strong contender. I would still like it on my wall though as a melange of colour and movement.

McBrian: Very well executed shot, purposeful lighting, dancer seems frozen in motion just too much, would love to have seen more movement in her skirt at least.

Nimitz: Similar idea to John’s, but has the areas of pin sharp focus that accentuates ‘motion’ for me, the bokeh suits it well and it is a delight to look at, well done. SECOND PLACE

Jusygetoutandride: Plenty of motion here but I just feel it lacked some interest; I wanted something more in the image to hold my attention.

Clarky: Very cute and well-caught unusual shot, I wish you had cropped it though to get rid of distracting white blob bottom left.

Drerka: What a joyful shot, full of fun and happiness, a deeper DOF maybe would have brought the riders into better focus, but perfect for mono, tonal range could be a bit more punchy.

Prieni: That kid is certainly moving, I think it would have had more impact if you had had a wider angle; the surf on the left seems to overpower and unbalance the image.

Kim C: It may be faster than a bullet, but there is nothing else in the image to relate the speed of the aircraft to and it has too many magenta overtones to me. What is he dropping – bombs? What is going on in bottom right, too distracting.

Chirpy: This is a great first entry, captured extremely well and I love the letterbox format, suits it well, plenty of movement in water and birds and technically fine.

Dirk1000: A most unusual entry Dirk! I am really not sure what to say, other than to me it says I am an aircraft painting and my motion is perhaps I am vibrating and revving up and about to take off, a PP effect that does not really work for me I am afraid.

Peter Elgar: great reportage shot, love the angle which increases the motion aspect, and eye contact makes it, isn’t it great when these grab shots come out so well, but lots of white specs from scanned neg that need cloning out.

Niblue: Wow! When I see this I am the passenger and motion hits full on, fast and gritty, tells a story, that’s what we all try to do and this image scores on that plus more. The out of focus dash and one hand on the wheel only adds to the drama of the image, it’s like being in a tunnel of motion, what speed were you doing with one hand? FIRST PLACE

Daniel Bridge: Beautiful colours and a well executed shot, but the motion is not dramatic enough for me.

Amoringello: nice crop but I am not really sure what has happened or is going to happen here? I presume the three little girls may be airlifted, but feel they are heavily weighting the centre of the image down and not much motion is happening.

Lenscape: Fast moving subject well caught, a lot of action, I like the way the droplets of water sparkle and energise this moment, but the colours of rider and scooter lack impact and contrast.

Adam P: This little drooling guy is on a mission, very effective use of slow shutter speed, I love the way just part of his face is in focus.

Summers: good potential was there, but is spoilt by a wonky horizon and underexposed.

RWG: frozen in motion, some more blur in wing action would bring more motion and it would have been nice to see a little more of birds head and eye.

Ammonyte: Very very nice shot, almost perfectly executed, I spy a bit of cloning top left? – and the portrait format suits this so well. I do envy those that can achieve such sharpness in a fast moving subject.

Deecy: This is so sweet, slow motion - I do love the use of mono in this timeless type of image, however, I find the burnt out background which spills into her face detracts from it, a little soft overall and I would crop a bit of the bottom.

JB: just makes you want to get out there and ride! The effects of motion are demonstrated with the out of focus background, spraying water, tightly cropped for impact and nice and sharp main subject, I found the rocks bottom right distracting, would have cropped right hand side.

jps: very imaginative and painterly this one, it reminds me of one of the French impressionists paintings. Off the wall and a hard one to judge, not a great scan as it lacks resolution and depth, unusual.

Galoot: I like the contrast in subject & background and colours here, rich autumn harvest hues contrasting with very mechanical motorcycle colours, no mistaking the motion of the rider, full on, those roadside grasses on right anchor the shot, does the job for me. THIRD PLACE

Karma Mechanic: We have mega motion, glossy car ads here, how did you do this yourself? Being picky, the white scratch at top is annoying would have cloned it out, but clever & imaginative. Highly Commended

ChrisA: we are up up and away, motion yes, another well executed shot with nothing to fault apart from I find the horizon confusing close to undercarriage, on land or not, I know it isn’t, but visually a puzzle.

malo1961: this would have been perfect for FLIGHT comp. well caught image but too static to really demonstrate motion this time.

Gashley: One of the few panned shots here which are not easy, I know, but sharky doesn’t scream motion to me and I feel the colour is dull & lifeless.

Ronniechristian: for a first entry Ronnie this is very good, pin sharp where it counts and great demonstration of motion in the wings where it counts, such a shame the sickly green colour backcloth clashes and competes with such a beautiful subject. Highly Commended

Pschlute: how do you manage to get such pin sharp shots all the time Peter, what PP tool do you use, please share? Perfect exposure, composition, etc etc.. love the hand caressing the bonnet, but too static at the starting blocks.

Phew...........Zzzzzzzzzzzz

That's the way to do it. 00:15 and all done and dusted.

Well done Lilly and well done Niblue.

The competition does seem to be dragging lurkers out into the light. Several this week with no previous offences.

Congratulations Niblue, yours is a great MOTION demonstration!

But I think the first prize of the week is really for Lilly. The heaviest judging workload of all the competitions to the present -30 entrants-! And the fastest judging delivers as never before! Well done Lilly.

My congratulations also for Nimitz for his SECOND PLACE, ant to the friend Galoot for his THIRD PLACE and his very good image.

Best regards.

Your well deserved First place makes me want to sit next to you in that car. But there isn't room there, is it?
Well done

And to Lilly,
You must have more horsepower as the winning car picture
Lightning fast judgment. Job very well done.

Congratulations niblue, great picture giving the feeling of speed (albeit at a lowly pace of 55 mph (come over here for good speed on the Autobahn (according to Jeremy Clarkson the only reason that Germany exists)). And you know now what we all expect in terms of speedy delivery of the judgement
Lilly you have set a new standard, especially considering the number of entries this time round. Thanks for judging this, it was a tough one to judge not only because of the number of entries.

These competitions are getting more fun every week. Can't wait for the next one niblue!

Wow - very surprised to win this one considering the quality of entry. Thanks to Lilly and others for their kind words.

I've only won once before and both times I've been away on holiday at the time! I seem to have useable comms this time though (I'm in a campsite near Chester) and will be back in time for the judging (*gulp*)...

Prieni: I used to live in Germany (stints in Munich and Berlin) so am well used to the wonders of the unrestricted autobahn. We've also got our own unrestricted playground on the Isle of Man - a Mecca for motorcyclists like me!

I like the winning shot . . . but . . . I have to say . . .

Was this road closed to the public?

Only one hand on the steering wheel at 50MPH ! ! !

Camera up to the drivers face (I hope he wasn't looking through the viewfinder).

I love the shot and it is a worthy winner but I would not encourage others to try and emulate it except on a closed/private road.

Some of us are still searching for a reason why Clarkson exists. Like Delia Smith and Madonna, his career seems to be a trumph of marketing over talent.

IMHO, naturally.

The 'scratch' is a blurred reflection from something shiny, I can see what you mean about cloning it out though.

G
George, while I concur with that for Madonna (great PR person, though) and Delia Smith (never really was interested in her, though you can't really avoid her in the UK) I think Jeremy Clarkson is brilliant. I really like his style of humour, though I can see why some people don't like him. What does it for me is that from time to time he can make fun of himself. Knowing that I'm much more tolerant when he makes fun of other people or groups or shows off his ego which is the size of a planet.

I would love to see a motoring magazine like Top Gear on German TV and I am surprised that no one has taken that on given that globalisation of nonsensical TV series seems to be the way to go. Maybe Top Gear makes too much sense :
