I've launched the next weekly competition, Action. Any comments on the subject may be added to this thread.

Is it possible/permissable to reupload a shot if, for example, it needs a bit more USM?

Not really. The idea is to get your image sorted out and then the die is cast.

This is to prevent the possibility of an entrant upgrading their entry in the light of more recent ones, which would hardly be fair.

Regarding this comp, have the rules on the time been relaxed? its just so far I can only see one pic that has been taken in the 'permitted' timeframe, or is it just the Fortnightly comp that has this restriction?

There is no time restriction in the weekly competition, and never has been.

The fornightly competition was started (By Dr Mhuni?) some time later with the express purpose of the shots being taken for the competition within the two weeks.

Thanks John, I suspected as much but that clears it up. (And explains why its not clear in the 'rules', they were written before it could become an issue!)

I understand that, but I was really only talking about USM tweaks. The gallery has resized my shot to 600 pixels, and that has made it slightly fuzzy. I guess it's best to stick to 600 pixels in future!

But no matter, it's no biggy... was just wondering...

The trouble is, there can't be a flexible rule on this, otherwise what is the difference between "only USM tweaks" and then perhaps "a slight colour adjustment" and where does it stop?

One minor question, why is the fortnightly competition held in the forum section and not in the competition section of the gallery?

A 'quirk' of history

Originally the Weekly Competition was in the Forum but was moved when the website was revamped.

The Fortnightly Competition was started after the revamp and has remained in the Forum.

p.s. best not to ask questions about the revamp

I hesitate to think of the reaction to any sort of change/improvement to this site! Whatever they did to it, the result is a very user friendly FREE forum without intrusive advertising.

This has been discussed previously and many long-standing members prefer the Fortnightly Competition in the Forum. Suggestions for change always seem to arouse strong feelings so it's a brave person who wants to go there again. Personally I'd rather have the Fortnightly Competition in The Gallery because of its easy access and user-friendly viewing system. It's not possible to access the competitions in the Forum to see all the past and present entries at a glance the way you can with the weekly competitions in the Gallery. And it's easier to enter a picture in the Gallery without having to use a third party medium to do so as you must do in the Forum.
PS: To get back on topic, I'm pleased to see a healthy start to the current Weekly Competition.

I totally agree.

If you look back at the old competitions in the forum, lots of pictures are now missing because people have not maintained their images on their hosting services. It's a real shame.

The Gallery is much easier.

Pentaxophile,

the change in size is only done in the gallery. If you click on the 600 pixel size version you get the original version in full glory.
Which version the judge will look at them we don't know...
