Weekly Competition #64 Mysterious

Another great subject to challenge us this week.

I'm sat here in my hotel room in Kent, not at my usual computer station at home, and I will see if I can make a mysterious image out of one of the small number of SD cards of JPEGs that I have on my laptop.

I've just made a coffee, so now I'm off to make an image!

I have to say that I have been scratching my head over this one. I know the picture I wanted to make and submit (and it wasn't my entry!) but I couldn't think of any location that fit the bill!

I think it's great that you are thinking the right way round. You have pre-visualised the image that you want and now all you need to do is find the location and make the photograph.

I find working that way much more satisfying than just wandering around hoping to see something interesting. It's a more focused approach.

You will find your location, you just need to search it out.

Am mysterious lack of inspiration maybe? Certainly by me - I can't think of anything mysterious to photograph I'm afraid.

Personally I think it's hard to put your finger on what is mysterious which is not simply 'odd' or 'incongruous'.

I have a fail safe I'll enter if I can't come up with anything better this afternoon!

Someone in yellow wellies stood in the middle of a dry field on a hot summer day holding an umbrella is odd or incongruous (I must stop doing it...)but a figure shrouded in mist is mysterious. Just as an example!

Difficult to think of something which is actually mysterious.

For me, most entries are just slightly odd or unusual

I set off on my push bike at 6:15 this morning and reached my destination 40 minutes later just as the light and the atmosphere was just right. Everything was perfect right up until I pressed the shutter... dead battery
I had removed the grip to save weight for the ride and made the mistake of trusting the battery level
Ah well, it was a nice ride, I will try again tomorrow, but I'm going out tonight so it might not happen
I shot some stuff closer to home this afternoon and I think I have a fall back image, but we'll see.

My problem is more that I have too many candidates this week. Like 'what on earth was I trying to achieve with that.... now there's a mystery'.

I think this weeks subject is a very challenging. It is not the sort of subject I can find as stock in my collection although I'm sure I have seen John's tower in a couple of previous competitions

I'm not terribly happy with my submission. It was cold & damp out by the canal this morning. I really wanted a bridge so I could put the ghost coming under it but the lighting was all wrong and the bridge pictures came out too noisy so I have settled with a lock. I am sure that the couple of people I did meet must have thought I was completely mad!

However it has made me explore bits of Photoshop Elements that I have never used before so there is some benefit.

This is certainly a very tricksy one.

I had this great image of what I was going to shoot in my minds eye. Unfortunately I didn't quite get the lighting as good as I wanted it
