Thanks Gully, great work. Well done folks, my fav this week is unlocker's concrete building.
I think I misread the competion as purely 'finding the beauty etc in ugly'.
If anyone is interested in seeing the other images in this series (including some properly ugly ones) check out the photos section, I'll try and get them up today sometime.

Cheers for the nice judging. You're right. I thought the broad mouth and lack of a chin might qualify my subject, but in context the photo seemed rather too pleasant.
My vote would have gone to Galoot - not cause I liked it, but it just seemed to take ugliness to the limit! Yuk

Congrats to you all, especially Malo.
I finally had an idea for this one but didn't get out with my camera over the weekend (kids!! ).
There is definitely some ugliness around and you really managed to find it.

Thanks a lot for all the effort you've put into judging, and congratulations to Malo1961.
It was my first competition. I’m usually my own worst critic, so I was looking forward to seeing whether someone else's view of my picture would differ greatly from mine. The answer was yes and no!
I knew the picture wasn't as sharp as I would have liked - 100% crop of a picture from a wide open 300mm lens on a wobbly tripod saw to that I think. I quite liked the crop as it was though, for the different textures. However, the subject wasn’t textures, so I take your point about getting more impact from just the head.
Overall it's been great fun, and I'll be entering again in the future. I must also acknowledge my other half’s help – hopefully once she’s got through her current ridiculous workload she’ll be entering here too.
Robert.

Thanks Gully, I hope you are feeling better now !!!
Glad I didn't win, I couldn't have followed that excellent judging !!!
The 'Ugly-One' was an extreme close up of an old potato that started to shoot.
The picture was of the shoots as they emerged from the potato skin.
Hmmm... so its not just us that breeds these things at the back of the fridge

Overall a nice photo with some ugliness going on behind the scenes...even a photo that makes a statement
It's one I took in my film days when I was doing an evening course and the theme of my portfolio was "Out and About in Cheshire" and I'd captioned it with something along the lines "What the Cheshire Tourist Office would not want to show".Overall a nice photo with some ugliness going on behind the scenes...even a photo that makes a statement
