congrats to the winners.
Kudos to the judge. (I secretly hope I'll never win, cause I'd hate to have to be a judge).

Hyram - I really like the composition and colours in this picture. After pictures of animals, water is probably my next favourite photographic subject matter. One slight frustration which you had no control over - what is the name on the boat? It just keeps pulling my eye in I don't know if it was possible, but the crop feels quite tight and I do wish I could see a bit more of the mast and rigging.
The submitted picture is less than 1/3 of the original (basically the bottom third). I played around with various versions, including options that included part of the boat the right way up to give the photo a point of reference, but this version seemed to work better because at first glance it has the appearance of a boat upside down, sinking into the water.Hyram - I really like the composition and colours in this picture. As the photo is of my own boat, I was keen for the name to remain well obscured.

Well done George, as Chirpy said the perfect combination of a seal, water and upside down. A pity that your computer was out of commission during last week's wildlife competition.
Many thanks to Chirpy for his well thought out judging.
I can almost see a sub-competition developing for the speediest posting of results

How very kind of you and what a perfectly delightful combination, mono + snail, I will pass on your wonderfully well captured and flattering portrait to the snail fraternity.
I am sure they will be delighted to know I am not the only snail supporter! I love the angle and crop too, well done that man a truly original shot!
As to certain persons mistaking slugs for snails, one can only pity them
Have a nice day, Lilly

My opinion of snails is similar to WC Fields' views on children. It's how you cook them that counts.
Lashings of parsley, plenty of butter, and a good measure of garlic. Yum.

Aside from the incorrect identification, thanks for the comments - I was quite pleased with the result - it was far more interesting than the colour version.
Well done to George and to all the other entrants and well done on the turn around with posting the results too.
Steve.
PS. 'Boyo' is going to be one happy chappy tomorrow - beating his father in his first competition
