Weekly #500 - Auto-Portrait

Think most Pentax cameras allow focusing with the remote? You just need to activate the option in the menu; then there is the interval mode; also with an option to auto focus before each shot (granted, that requires synching your posing and possibly not in older cameras? ); and last but not least, focus on a static object and get creative with positioning yourself or use an ultra wide, set it to infinity and experiment. These are just few options in addition to all the reflective surfaces you can use given you are going to deliver a literal take on the subject. Noone said you have to 😉.

As for people cheating; the risk is no bigger than with any other competition. You can't really tell if someone posted their own shot; or if it has, in fact, been taken with a Pentax or acceptable alternatives. A certain amount of trust is necessary.

I like to do things the simple way. Just clamp your camera to a tripod, set the timer for a 12 sec delay and then trot round to a pre-focussed chair, adopt an appropriate expression and wait for the click. These new fangled things like selfie sticks are not for me.

I never indulged in narcissism so I've decided I don't intend to start now. I'll leave it to the Facebookers and Twitterers.

Just use a tripod. And there is a difference between a selfie and a self portrait. One is to seek favour, one is a reflection.

I do think that it is sad that Magdalena cannot enter, despite her wonderful attitude.

I wonder if, in future, it would be possible to let the PU 'public' judge a special competition like this?

A list of entries and a tick box for your favourite entries in order of preference? The judging could have a larger window too.

That would sound good to me too

I have a feeling of déjà vu. This competition is almost exactly what we had to do for the 100th competition. I'm not sure I want to put myself through that again.

You mean we don't get to see how much bigger the bald spot is?

Certainly not, that was nearly 8 years ago. I just look old & grumpy now with a lot less hair

I'm presuming this competition is voided by people posting in the actual competition thread when they aren't supposed to. No prizes and detentions all round!

We appear to have a bigger issue - first submitted photo vanished throwing off the results and I have to say I am a bit confused. Could you please maybe check John, if this was an accident or intentional action, before I proceed? Thought withdrawals are not supposed to happen?

The photo is still there, but it's the only image on page 2 of the competition. Only a set number appear in each block. Just use the next page arrow and you'll find it there, all alone......
Best regards, John
