Wedding tips

Having recently aquired a Sigma 530dg super from Greynolds999, Gareth. Have been asked to take a few snaps of a reletives wedding. OMG Now will be using flash, indoors and as fill flash outside, so any pointers.

Pay a professional to do the "proper" shots, then keep out of their way on the big day, most of all when they set up a pose do not stand next to them with your kit.
I have never shot a wedding, but above is what a pro advised me.

Weddings are largely an event for "conspicuous consumption" (as anthropologists have described it) so recording how conspicuous the consumption is has some importance.

play to your strengths as a guest. Assuming there will be a "proper" wedding 'tog in attendance, he'll get all the group shots etc, so concentrate on candids.

As a guest you know the happy couple and their other guests better than the pro does, you'll have a better chance of knowing where the candid shots will happen and being there with a camera when they do.


That's what I always do at friends and relatives weddings, keep out of the pros way and let him/her do his/her job. Then grab the shots the pro will miss which will fill in the gaps in the album.
