Web Hosting

I've recently bumped into my free Flickr upload limit. Of course I could go pro but before I splash the cash I just though I'd ask for opinions here regarding peoples preferred photo hosting sites!

Please let me know your preferences.

Lily, Mattmatic and I use Photium, its worth playing around with the free trial. The sales, messaging and comments features work very well if you want to have them.

I think it depends what you want to do. If you are looking to sell prints etc then look at Ken's suggestion, or I've also heard good things about SmugMug. If you are just after some cheap unlimited image hosting then it's hard to beat Flickr's price.

Many people are familiar with Flickr, which for me is an important consideration as I have friends and family who visit my Flickr page from time to time, thanks to the Facebook/MyFlickr integration.

Oh yes, due to Flickr's dominance it also gets the lion's share of the third party plug-ins etc. So as a Mac user I can upload directly to Flickr from within iPhoto or Aperture using a plugin. Very convenient! I'm sure there are similar tie-ins with Windows software.

www.pbase.com is the best in terms of presenting large photos on the hosting site in an attractive and uncluttered way with covenient navigation for the viewer. They provide many options for style and organisation for you as well.

Photobucket is fine for forum and eBay use, and is free for images up to 1024x768.

Deviantart has the best deal I believe.
It's free and only has an upload limit of 20mb per file.

I don't really like the community there though, if you think Flickr is bad with people trying to be popular... Da is even worse with all the teenagers

I use Clicpic for my website. I suppose theres the likes of Photobucket. Build your own site, it's great fun and very rewarding. glad i did

I just didn't like smugmug personally - it looked like the name sounded to me! I don't feel the need for all the social networking stuff of some other sites, I see my friends often enough to share things with them

for quick stuff I use photobucket as it's free, but I don't particularly like it.

I have used photobox pro which is free & you never know you might sell one of your images, which they pay into either paypal or straight into your bank.

I'm trying out zenfolio at the moment as well. It does seem to do the job very well and easily, and looks good. 12mb limit. The trial is only 14 days though and as they've got a major upgrade penned in for 5th Jan, you may want to wait for that.
