Weather seals

There are a number of threads where the weather sealing is mentioned. The last one being the "dodgy" non sealed K7 grip.

If its sealed, fine. If not why is it an issue? Anyone lost a winder or drive or camera or lens due to moisture ingress? If so, how bad were the conditions.

My Sigma 70-200EX and istD have been through several dust storms as still have no visible dust inside. Even sensor dirt has not been a problem.

Yes, weather sealing is good if incorporated, but why spend a hundred pounds more for the original grip for the K7? If you spend the forty quid or less and it fails after a year so what? It's not a big deal of money. A filter costs more.

Only a point of view. My grip is original as the alternative was not available last May.

Well you are talking about electronic contacts and a power source, I've no idea if the battery grips contacts on the camera are protected if not it could shorten out the main-board of course.

Having looked closely at my grip/body contact arrangement, they are protected Stefan.

Were I to buy a K-7 and take it out in the rain with the dodgy grip then I would just take out the batteries to be sure. The reason I use a grip is more to make the whole package handle better (for me) more than for the extra battery power.

How can you tell by looking at the contact arrangement?

Yeah that would make it all right, the worst thing that can happen is that you short out a button. If it's the shutter you will take photos all the time, nothing more nothing less.

i think stefan is refering to 3rd pary grips and not the original one,
as there is no doubt the k7 is sealed, but if the grip is not, will it fill with water and track across the terminals of the battery or even the contacts between the body and grip.

i have a 3rd party grip on my k7 and used it in rain the other day with out even thinking about it, i have also used my other camera and 3rd party grip in the rain with no affect,
