Nicely composed shot Phil, the diagonals in the hill and the tree really work for me

Agree with what's said, and in addition it has a painted look to it IMO - very pleasant.

Phil, surely quality of light is fundamentally important for landscape photography.
Here it looks like the image was taken during the middle of the day, judging by the shadows. As a result, the scene looks flat and washed out to me.
Also, with the amount of trees in the scene, wouldn't it have been better to visit in the autumn time to get a better contrast of tones in them?
I'm shocked to see Simon not mention anything along these lines. After all, his images are worth looking at and learning from.
With respect, just my two sleung (thai coins).

I applaud you for trying Phil, because I cannot get landscapes to work for me, so this is second hand information if you like. The landscape photographers who come to our club all shoot early morning or in the evening. They same it increases the contrast in the image to counter the "flat and washed out" as Paul mentioned. The other thing they talk about is a "path" to lead you into the picture. In your image the trees crossing the scene seem to prevent me from moving through to the moor and sky in the background
