At this point it becomes apparent that Barclays bank deserve a special mention.

As soon as we realised what had happened, we contacted them to cancel our cards. I gave them my details then they insisted on talking to my wife who was in a bad way. I handed the phone over and she managed to give most of her details before breaking down and I took it back off her and finished off. Then they said they needed to talk to her again. I gave her back the phone. They then tried to persuade her to increase her loan.

Today we realised her chequebook was missing so we went through the same performance and after 40 minutes of holding and being passed from one to another, we got the chequebook stopped.

Then they asked her if she wanted to increase her loan again.

I cannot adequately convey my contempt for them.

Sorry [/rant]

Un-(insert appropriate word) believable...
given your plight and everything else that going on wouldn't you think they might have just the slightest touch of decorum (shakes head)

Well not all banks are so hard nosed. When my wife's purse was pinched in Barcelona I phoned Lloyds and they took the relevant details carefully and promptly and dealt with it all painlessly in about 10 minutes. So credit to them and shame on Barclays.

Sounds like Dixon`s who wouldn`t cancel a recurring debit payment for my Uncle`s digicam insurance unless he spoke to them personally - I had rung to tell them that he had just died and wouldn`t need the insurance any more.......................................?? Doh !!

It wasn't Dixons with me - it was Virgin Media , who could not possibly speak with me or arrange to transfer the account from my dead husband to me . I had explained he had died [ this was 2 days after ] and was told by the nice gentleman somewhere off shore that he HAD to talk to my husband since I didn't know the password !!

Burglary is awful. This might amuse you.

A couple of years ago the studio was broken into, for the third time in a year, when my wife was in on her own. She looked downstairs to see Kapa clad and hatted youth unplugging the cash register, she went after him and chased him for some distance but he made the mistake of running into a building site where the builders immediately saw what was going on and gave him a doing, sorry, apprehended him awaiting the arrival of the police.

The police arrived and he has the cash register at his feet but insisted 'It wisnae me!' The police handcuff him and bundle him into the back of their car. 'Watch mah sair leg!', 'F--- your leg.' replies policeman and kicks his leg with some force. I like summary justice.

The police come round for statements and tell us that the thief's name is Jude Mackenzie. 'Brilliant,' I say 'St Jude, patron saint of lost causes.' to which to cop replies, 'We know the entire family, there are six of them. Their parents were big Beatles fans and the entire family are named after Beatles songs.' Had to laugh.

Ken,

Can we speculate as to the names of the rest of them then:

1. Come and Get It
2. He came in through the bathroom window
3. Not Guilty
4. Junk
5. You never give me your money...

You guys have obviously never sprayed yourselves in the eyes...by accident, early in the morning, when half asleep.
I speak from bitter experience when I say that it isn't nice
