WB (mystery to me anyway)

Stan, I also have the 7 Day Shop variable ND filter and it does indeed add a warm yellowish cast to images. However, the cast added by mine is nothing like as strong or as yellow as that on your images, and is easily corrected in PP. The bigger downside to me with the variable ND is the loss of sharpness which is quite pronounced. I can't explain why the cast on your shots is so strong, but I'm almost 100% certain it is the filter that is doing it.

Thanks John and David, I think it will be staying in the bottom of my junk draw. At least the yellow cast wasn't as bad as the black crosses I got the first time I used it. This time I had dialled it to total black then eased it open till I guessed it was right yellow tint instead of black X.
I usually take any filters off now before taking photos, especially the 55 - 300mm which has given disappointing results, some of them down to me, but on a tripod with SR off I think they could/should be better.
The only good thing is it wasn't an expensive experiment. I think Charlotte has bought some Hitech ND's so will see what she says about them ?

Hello again Stan, it's uncanny what you have said in your last post! I found the same with the 55-300 - it absolutely hates filters! Without them it's a brilliant lens. I also have bought some Hitech ND Grads and can tell you they are superb for the money. Excellent clarity and all round performance. I often use mine in conjunction with a polariser, with little or no discernible loss in sharpness and the results have real impact.

I don't think there's any right or wrong with any of the settings Barrie. It's personal choice, like Green Mode, P, AV etc. I would hazard a guess if we used the same settings etc we would stil have slightly different results I have my WB set to Auto. Is that wrong?

Thanks for the feedback ref Hitech ND's David. I'll have to send a letter to Santa methinks Several members have said the same ref 55-300mm and I've barely used it since, last time was on Newcastle Quay and I was quite pleased with the photo, two men on the roof of the Sage. I have the kit lens 50-200mm or the 150-500mm which I tend to use instead, but the 18-135mm seems to be on my camera the most.

When it comes to filters there's definitely some truth in the saying "You get what you pay for" and the 7 day shop one is a good example, there are lots of threads around the web discussing problems with photos taken with them.
Having started with Cokins, then Hitech and now Lee I've seen a marked difference in the results each time I've "upgraded", I just wish I'd bought the Lee filters to start with despite the cost

Me too, and probably a lot of others.

All the photographs I took on Sunday using Raw when opened in ACR seem to have an As Shot Temperature of 9200 giving a very yellow cast to the image. As far as I know the WB was set to Daylight and Fixed. I was using a 7dayshop VariND Filter.
Today I took a couple of shots in the garden without the filter and they seemed to register 'normal' in ACR as shot 5450, ACR daylight 5500, ACR auto 5600. I took another two using the filter which gave in ACR the same reading except for the Auto which read 4650
I'm wondering if I have a bug in the camera on long exposures. The 'yellow' photos were taken at various shutter speeds in different light and I am sure I never touched anything to do with the WB so wondering if anyone else has suffered this phenomenon or have a "Probable Cause"
