After the disater area known as a W 80 I am looking to cheer myself up with some retail therapy. Would welcome advice regarding a waterproof compact, any make or model as long as it`s still a current model. Might consider too using a waterproof case.

There's always the W90 which is being released soon...
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

Why does it have to be a current model? You might get lower noise from an older one. I understand noise (grain) was what was bothering you most about the W80.

Robbie D, why would I want to further the coffers of a company that has stitched me up for £230.

Pete, had an interesting conversation along that route today with a technician from a camera repair company. Funny how nobody I communicated with today regarding buying another camera recomended Pentax. Are they getting a reputation for producing duff gear on the compact front?

Pentax compacts, like several other brands are all outsourced to one company - Sanyo, so you have as much chance of a duff compact from several other companies beside Pentax.

Gwyn, it`s all of the W80 cameras ever produced that have the IQ problems. It`s not an isolated case. Pentax recognise this but their recomendation is not a cure. I will try what they say but it`s not what I bought a 12.1 MP camera for. So far the best recomendation is the Panasonic FT1.

Err, don`t use so many pixels. Hardly what you would expect from a world leader in imaging technology.
