It was me or him .. one of us was going to give way eventually.

It was me in the end .. when he came flying straight for me, I think he took exception to the lens touching his face.

Hardly any cropping done to these.. just a bit of tidying up so to speak.

At least you survived, Mike. Very good. No wonder the wasp was upset by the close encounter.

Tamron Adaptall 2 90mm f2.8 macro lens with Vivitar macro teleconverter attached .. lighting was Sigma ringflash.

Thanks for the info - I'd been wondering about that lens as a cheap alternative to Pentax or Sigma options, so good to see its results... now to find a cheap one (ha ha)

I prefer No 2. The black surface complements the black parts of the wasp, and there's more of it in focus as it's side-on.
