Warranty K10D

Hi All,

Anyone know what the warranty term is for a K10D bought from SRS Microsystems? I'm really deflated about reliability of my K10D's. I have two. I bought my first from Jessops and second from SRS. My first needed to get the autofocus module replaced(this took 6 weeks!!) and my second has now come up with a "memory card error". I bought this one from SRS on the 16/02/2008. I tried 3 memory cards and all give the fault. The cards work in my other body. I tried a master reset and still doesn't work. I will leave the battery out all night and see in the morning!! Any other advice? I was so excited and pleased with the K-7 specifications but now I'm really down as I've convinced a few friends to buy Pentax and if they get similar reliability problems I'll be gutted.

There's no reason why they should have problems. Pentax reliability seems pretty good.

Have you formatted the cards in the camera?

Yes formatted the cards in camera body of the working camera. The other one won't format the cards!

Sounds to me like the card module of the camera may be faulty. The best thing to do is give SRS a call. Warranty should be 2 years from date of purchase.

EDIT: I very much doubt that SRS will replace it after that length of time so it'll probably have to go into the black hole of Pentax repairs. Prepare yourself for a long turnround time now that Pentax repairs are outsourced. User TTK on here had to wait 7+ weeks for a repair under warranty.

Had my k10 for about 20 months now everythings been fine.Like mannesty says a 2 year warranty from SRS.

So you should have about 8 months left

I have spoken to the new Pentax repair centre and the backlog of repairs were just due to the “change over” from Pentax themselves, there were a couple of weeks (4-5) when nothing was done.
Now they tell me the turn round should be as good as all the others.
Let us know how quick or slow they really are.
I was enquiring how much a new sensor would be for a K20, £480
It would be just as cheap, or nearly to buy a new body from SRS.

What make are the cards? Mine doesn't like Sandisk.
Does the light flash when you insert the card with the
camera turned off?

I have two K10D and a K20 D and I've only ever used Sandisk Extreme 111s in them, I know your not keen on Sandisk and Yes the light does flash when the cards are inserted, with the camera off on all three bodies?

I tried two types Kingston and Lexar SD's. I've used the same cards in this camera since I bought it. One thing I did notice, you when you normally take a shot with no card in the camera you see a preview of the shot then the camera tells you 'No Card In Camera'. Well the camera fires with no card in it but no preview just a red rectangle with a stroke through it on the top left handside of the screen!

Have you tried a factory reset or firmware reload?

Just out of interest, load the latest firmware onto a card and insert it in the camera, power on the camera with the menu button pressed and see if the camera reads the card then.

If the firmware has rendered the card reader inoperative, the only other way might be to do it from the USB port but I'm not sure if that can be done.

Hate to point this out by my K10d had the memory card error fault. Pentax charged me £140 to fix it.

Yes it's possible that they may claim that the card reader was damaged by a card or mishandling etc.

Certainly wasnt either. Hadnt used it for 2 months, switched it on and it wouldnt work. it was nearly 2 years old at this point.

The did replace the card reader. A search on google reveals quite a few people have had this problem.

I have found most card reader problems are with CF readers mainly pin breakages.
I had a CF Sandisk extreme 111 go faulty on me, SRS changed it for me.
I have had others tell of card faults on SD, luckily none myself.
