I believe it is a PH-RBC77 and I suspect it is slightly scarce

The PH-RBC77 (FA* 28-70 + 80-200) is discontinued.

A (maybe modified/shortened) PH-RBK77 (DA* 200 + 300) could be an alternative, as it seems to share the same mount. See e.g.

Hi Froeschle - Thanks for the information - I suspected the orignal hood was discontinued, but my googling had not turned up a credible alternative (I'd even searched on the PF site that you provided the link for) - the hood for the 200mm looks to be the best alternative.

That's what I like about PentaxUser members - a willingness to help and share their knowledge for the benefit of others.

Cheers

Bear in mind that if you are using the lens on a digital camera, you can use a smaller hood that would cause vignetting if used on film.

In other words, for digital, the original hood is not ideal anyway.

Thanks George - Yes, I was wondering whether the hood for the 16-50 would fit (and be effective) - I have one of those so I'll try it tonight! It might save me purchasing a PH-RBK77!

It would not be very effective because it is for a wider lens.

You want a hood for a longer lens. Around 100mm might work.

I followed the suggestion in the PentaxForums thread and bought a Pentax PH-RBK77 Lens Hood (designed for the 200 & 300 DA * lenses) - the bayonet mount is exactly the same so it does fit BUT only when the lens barrel is pulled back to the manual focus setting .

Examing the hood it seemed that it might be made to fit if I could reduce the length of the hood (from the rear) by approx 3mm. So after about 45 minutes of "sanding" with some emery paper I now have a lens hood that fits perfectly

Thanks for the E-bay link Alan, I had seen it annd even offered them £30 (through their website) but they were happy to wait for a full price sale .

To be honest I'm happier with my outcome. The newer hood is both cheaper and much deeper yet shows no vignetting. I know the "matched hood" is the same colour as the lens barrel but I think I can live without that
