I got a Hama one, as it supplied the 6.5v required, and it was a lot cheaper than the Pentax one! Not sure of the power requirement of the DS, whether it's the same as the *istD I have.

Lots of checking and double-checking the right connector/polarity etc before plugging it in, but then I only used it twice, I think, for when I updated the firmware.

It's a Hama Universal Adapter "Electronic 2.5" Mk. II, model number 73046612. I can't find these on the web now, they do a "Digi 2.5" which seems a similar thing, although the voltages go higher (my one only goes up to 7v). Mine supplies 3, 4.5, 5, 6, 6.5 and 7v, 0.28A max.

As I said, mine's set up for the *istD, but if you could confirm that the DS required the same, then this PSU would (as far as I can tell) be suitable. You could have it for £7.50 incl. p&p (assuming you're in the UK).

Just tried it out to make sure it still worked, and it's fine. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks - very kind of you. I am in the UK. I'll check the power requirements for he istD and DS and come back to you. From memory they are the same.

Quick question: did you mean 4.5v required power?

The istD and DS seesm to have the same power requirements.

Er, no. The *istD requires 6.5v DC input. What does the DS need?

I'll check the manual, but they should be the same 4 x 1.5v AA cells, which is OF COURSE 6V!! (I am stupid sometimes).

I just had a look and they both are Powered by 4 AA batteries or 2 CR-V3 Li-ion batteries which is 6volts

Well, not stupid at all. Bear in mind that many people use NiMH cells, which are 1.2v each (4.8v total), but the DC mains input is 6.5v. Seems a bit odd. Then you look at the K10D, which has a 7.4v Li-ion battery, but has an 8.3v DC input.

So as the DC input doesn't seem to be that close to the battery voltage, who's to say they didn't change the DC input between cameras?

Anyway, just had a google, and found that the Pentax K-AC10U power supply was suitable for the K100D,K110D *IST-D & *IST-DS, so shouldn't be any trouble with this at all.

Oh, and I made a mistake with the current output of the adaptor. 0.28A is the draw from the mains, the adapter can supply up to 2.5A! Seem to remember this was quite important, certainly way above your standard mains adapter.
