Thanks!
Possibly found a 75mm leaf shutter version. Anyone any experience with it? I understand that it does not have an A setting and so programme and Tv modes won't work, but do the extra elements for the shutter affect the iq?
It's a very favourable price (on account of it being a bit tricky to switch from normal to ls mode), so I'm tempted...

Medium format lenses are the highest quality for professional use. All the Pentax 645 and 67 lenses will be exceptionally good.
The leaf shutter lens is for allowing flash synch at all speeds up to 1/500s. The leaf shutter is used with the focal plane shutter set to 1/8s or slower. It can be locked open so the FP shutter can be used when preferred.
What you really need though is a standard 75mm or 90mm lens. However, if the leaf shutter lens is almost as inexpensive then why not? Normally I'd expect it to cost quite a bit more.

Thanks for the info John. I understand that the medium format optics all perform well, my main concern was whether the changes for the ls would be noticeable. The pentax 645 range brochure shows them as having identical optical formulae, however the specs are a bit different! And there must be some extra glass for the shutter!

Why must there be extra glass for the shutter? The shutter is placed between the elements of the lens usually, although I don't have the schematic in front of me as I write. I'm certain you will see no difference, there's nothing inferior about the leaf shutter lens.

My friend has the LS 75mm, I had the regular 75mm. Shot with both and couldn't see any difference in the results.
The LS is a little more of a faff to use but you'll quickly get used to it, and if you're doing outdoor portraits then the ability to sync flash at 1/500 makes it well worth its place in your camera bag.

with my new medium format acquisition, I'll need a lens! Looking at ebay for the manual 75mm, they seem to go for £130 or so on buy it now, and less when on auction. Prices in shops vary - FFordes want about £150 but I just missed one at mifsuds for £99. People with the money for the FA version seem to be bidding that version up to silly prices... Does anyone have one of the manual lenses that they'd like to offer at a competitive price? I'd also think about other lenses if they are at a good price, though to avoid any offence I'll be upfront and say I can't offer much above £100 at the moment.
Thanks!
Brian
