Wanted - maybe someone can help?

Hi!

I currently have a K100D and having been asked to take some photos for my sister's wedding I am looking for...

1) A back up body - ideally a cheap ish K100d or near by, body only.

2) Flash - I bought a Jessops 300AFD off ebay but after getting myself utterly confused about TTL and P-TTL I am open to any other flashes on offer that might be usefull to me.

3) New lens - I think I will be buying a sigma 17-70mm as it will be useful to me in the future, but again, I am interested to any suggestions.

I foolishly thought I could hire these sorts of things, but it appears you can only hire canon or nikon gear in this country

so, I thought I would post here in case anybody has their memory jogged and remembers an old body they no longer use and are wishing to sell on

thank you!

Nick

Good point

For the camera I think I'd really only be looking at £100-£150, but if it was a significant upgrade to my K100D then I would consider more with the view to selling off my original camera at a later date.

Flash - as cheap as possibe..£30...£40...it's not some thing that I'd likely use again you see.

Lens - well the Sigma is available for £230 at the moment, so not more expensive than that. I am interested mainly in landscapes, so what I would pay for something really depends on how much use it would be to me in the future. I've read good reviews about the sigma lens so am willing to pay a bit more for that.

I was really just seeing if anyone had any old kit lying around that might be of use that they would consider selling on...

My Tamron f2.8 28-75 mm lens is for sale here which will help out as it has a constant f2.8 aperture to for the low light situations such as in the church. The focal range is good for group shots and portraits to save swapping lenses around.

I have a K100d that is redundant since I bought the K10d.

I am sure we could come to some arrangement.

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Nick

I'm in a similar position. I already had the istDS, so I picked up a refurb K100D Super body from Pentax UK (via eBay).

I also bought a Sunpak 30DX flash on eBay (Pentax dedicated). It works in TTL mode on the DS but not on the K100D Super. It's fine in manual mode with very useful variable output control (5 settings). I recommend Mattmatic's flash manual.

As for lenses, I'm proposing to keep it simple with the kit lens on one body, a 35 - 105 on the other (for a bit more reach) and a 50mm A f1.7 for portraits.

Best of luck

Hi Jon, the wedding is middle of July in Surrey.

Steve - good to hear there's someone else in the same boat! I tried and tried to wriggle out of it but the clincher was that there would be no photos at all so the heart strings were tugged and I agreed. I've made it clear though what they can and can't expect!

saying that I belive if I'm going to do something I'll do it properly - hence the back up body. I think I'll go for a similar lens to you - but I was thinking of the sigma 17-70mm as I'd be able to use that afterwards for my landscapes. I'm keeping my eyes open for others though on ebay etc.

good luck with your wedding!

Nick
