Wales for a break...

Did a whistletop tour of North Wales last weekend & by & large followed the tourist trail mainly. One place I did visit (without my camera unfortunately) was a disused slate mine at Aberllefeni - fantastic scenery & old workings around there, not to mention hundreds of thousands of tons of spoil that garden centres would charge you a fortune for ! GOOGLE MAP LINK park at the site on the link & a path leads up the valley.
Harlech is a nice spot & you don't have to be somewhere unusual to take an unusual photo.

Bob, that photo is stunning, the clouds in makes it so mystical.

The sky is better there and the birds give it something extra but I like your first photo better since the castle came out better in there in my view.
If there wasn't the castle on the leftside in the second, I might have liked that one more maybe.

Stefan I saw these images in Rob's Flickr site (which is well worth a look) and I agree with you the first image is the better of the two.
Malcolm - don't be put off by its reputation. Visit Barmouth and enjoy a traditional seaside town for what it is. Then there is a new restaurant that's opened up the estuary as you near the main coast road (that makes it about 7 miles inland) which is said to be very good. You can also get the best pizza in the UK (Yeah right) nearby. If you need better information I'll ask my wife - I just tag along mostly.

Thanks for your Wales travel advice
@Bob: Great pics! Good inspiration! Thanks for the tip about the tip (of slate:wink Slate comes in amazing colours too - hope I can get some of that.
@Mike: I might indeed give Barmouth a look - never been there! Maybe a wistful nostalgic pic or two? Any chance of some more details about the pizza place and the restaurant 7 miles away?

If "different" is what you're looking for then around North wales Anglesey is probably the best bet, there are lots of little known/photographed bays/beaches. There's also the "moonlike" Parys Mountain which was once the largest copper mine in the world. Amwlch port is also worth a look, now rather rundown unfortunately but consequenetly not well visited and it still has some character
These are just a few suggestions from the "top of my head", the more well-known locations are well documented on the www, if you only visit one beach make sure it's Llanddwyn near to Newborough !!

Hope the meet goes well!
Can't come. Going to Wales on 8th May for about ten days - Snowdonia & Anglsey etc.
Any tips about less usual places to photograph?
And, of course, best pub and restaurant tips will be MOST welcome!
