votage stabilizer for Optio S4i

I am travelling to Sri Lanka in July and hope to make good use of my Optio S4i.

I will need to recharge the battery using the mains supply in hotels and have a travel adapter for that purpose.

However, I have been told the mains supply outwith urban areas is unreliable and voltage fluctuations are common.

Will these fluctuations damage the camera when it is recharging?

I am aware that voltage stabilzers can be purchased to prevent damage to electrical equipment - do I need one and if so where can I find a suitable one for use with my Optio?

Any help would be appreciated.

Check out the spec on your charger. I'm pretty sure that the chargers are designed to prevent surges, etc damaging the camera. After all, we can still experience surges and spikes in our own supply, hence the need for protection for PCs, etc.

Not quite answering your question, but I hope it helps.....

Keith,

Most modern supplies are switch-mode power supplies. They will be marked with their INPUT something like "100-240V". These use electronics to convert the mains voltage to a stable output voltage, and consequently can convert a varied range of input voltages without any problem. They are also smaller and lighter than the transformer version (the transformer versions had more restrictive input voltages).

So voltage fluctuations should be covered ok. If you have complete dropouts, then the camera should just start its charging when the power resumes.

Just to reiterate... check your adaptor. If it says "100-240V" (or similar), you don't need anything else, just the right mains plug

ta for the info matt, i thought pretty much the same thing, just get the right adaptor and everythign will be hunkydory

tho the prob i have now is my battery doesnt hold a charge after charging it back home

its an older battery 16+months but held a charge fine while being charged overseas, i get home put it on the charger, red light comes on but once its done instead of the green light it just turns off. then shows as completely no charge when in the camera

im currently charging my second battery to see if it is only that one battery
