I knew there were a few posts about the Vivitar 550FD and circuitry, but I have another question. I have a 550FD M/P/O that was dedicated to older film cameras. My question is will it be dedicated to the K7, with TTL or would I have to set the camera to X manually and adjust the flash accordingly? I have always loved this little flash and wanted to use it again. Thanks, Mick

You'll have to use it manually (or in its "auto" mode if it has one) with the camera set to X-sync. The good news is that with digital it's very easy to run off a few test shots to get the settings right, so it's far less of a pain than it was with film.

TTL doesn't work with the newer DSLR cameras for Pentax it's P-TTL and it works differently.
So with the older flashes you need to use Auto or Manual mode of the flash.
What mode you use on the camera is up to you.
X mode simply set the shutter to 1/180 to insure good synchronization.
You can also use M mode on the camera that gives you a bit more freedom.

I don't know if you can use other modes on your camera... but don't think so.
