This photo is also from my recent trip to Stavanger by car, and is from "Valdresflya" in Valdres, a highland area in the middle of Norway. K20D and 18-55mm WR. Comments and critique are welcome!

I like - why ?

The large lump of stone in the L foreground and the small pieces from it leading me down towards the lake. Then I'm hit with the large hill beside the lake and the end of the lake leads me into the further away mountains , which are high enough still to have some snow on them.

The colour gradation is lovely .

Could it be improved - maybe a wee slice off the top ? Perhaps we could have had the whole of the lake by taking less of the L hand side - mind you I don't know the size of the lake so possibly this is not possible.

The whole thing just pleases me - it's calm and relaxing

techno-terminator: I am glad that you liked the image from Valdres, and it is interesting for me to read your interpretation of it!

I googled "Valdresflya", and it seems that this area/lake has been shot quite a lot. This image shows the lake in a more classic composition, almost in the national romantic idiom (from my point of view). In my shot, I was more concerned with the composition of the mountains and rocks, and I was confined with staying close to the road and car.

That was interesting seeing it from a different angle

The Wikimedia one is darker , a more brooding sort of thing but it shows clearly that the lake is much larger so you could not have got it all in.

I still wonder about taking a wee slice [ not a lot ] off the sky

I agree that a slight crop, taking off a bit of the sky, would improve the image. Maybe something like this?

That wee crop makes a world of difference - in my mind anyway

But then what do I know ?
