I am thinking of buying an *istD but currently have 7 fantastic M lenses - can these be used on the *istD in manual metering mode ? if so is the *istD easy to use on manual metering ?

You need to apply the firmware revision, available from the Pentax website, and then you can meter quite satisfactorily with K and M lenses.

It works great, it's as easy as setting camera to manual mode, set the aperture, push green button behind shutter release button, camera sets shutter speed, focus, shoot. The cool thing is that the auto focus system is still on, it beeps and gives you an in focus indicator in the view finder. Works very nice.

I think the poster was talking about Pentax M lenses. The Ricoh problem is fairly well-known, but in fairness Ricoh don't suggest that you should use their lenses on Pentax cameras.

I did the update... but my Pentax-M 50mm 1.7 only works at open aperture, I can't stop down to anything. The DOF preview doesn't work either!
Advice?

Didn't work on my M series 35 - 70 2.8 zoom. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Ah haa.... worked it out - had to fix up the custom function and turn it to Manual Focus.
