Used camera prices.

Been looking at some used pentax camera prices, on here, and on another forum.
Roughly speaking....
K5 around £200
K5iis around £400
K3 around £350-£400.

My question is:- (lets assume all in excellent condition, reasonable shutter count, boxed etc) is the k5iis worth twice the cost of the k5....or a cost of £200 to upgrade from k5. Or is the k3 better value for around the same cost as the k5iis?

If the K-3 is a bit cheaper than a K-5iis I would say that's great VFM. I prefer the K-3, although both are great cameras.

In my opinion K5IIs raw files are better to post processing but K3 has better af-c and is better to crop.

Hi, I think usage is a factor as all are fine cameras. My K5 when I traded it in to SRS required a superglue tidy up of grip rubbers coming away, has one or two control levers starting to feel loose and paint rubbed off mag alloy around corners. 15,000 exposures over three years. Functioned fine though but I couldn't resist the trade in offer at time for a nett £374.

I enjoy the clearly greater computing and motor power in K3 and the ability to crop heavily for wildlife. The dropping of the moire filter does allow nice sharpening up with a clarity filter.

Camera technology still creeps forward and (unlike lenses which mostly hold value) subsequent bodies allow previous models to slip in value. Great cameras don't stop being great though so confidently go for a low use bargain of any version.

I was after a k5iis or a k3, keeping an eye out for something in my price range, though expecting it to be the k5iis. I subsequently bought a used, mint, low use (1800) k3 on here recently for £370, which I am delighted with.

as Bill says, subsequent bodies allow previous models to slip in value, but the k5iis seems to be still holding well in comparison.
