Chris you need to resize using software. Photoshop, PSP, Gimp or Irfanview (amongst many others) will resize your photos to the right pixel width for you.

Many thanks Gwyn.

I have all of my images in photoshop elements 4, don’t know if this will change image size, have only really used it to catalogue images, and its not very good at that, as I regularly get the message (image file missing),
when I try to print images.

Then I shout and swear at it, which the wife says will not do any good, makes me feel a hell of a lot better though.
I have a real love hate relationship with computers and the hate is all from me.

Take care and thanks again.

Open the photo you want to resize in PSE Organiser. Click on Edit photo which will take you to the editor in Elements. You will find there, under File you will find Save For Web. Click that. A whole dialogue box should appear (though I am not familiar with PSE4). Make sure it is showing as a Jpeg, not a GIF (if it says Gif click on the drop down menu and click on jpeg). Set the quality to medium.
Further down you will see one box called new size. Tick constrain proportions then enter 800 in the width box, then apply.

Save your new, small sized photo with a different name to the original - add web to the name for instance.

You can then upload you new web friendly photo either to the gallery here, or via Photobucket or similar into the forum. Read the sticky at the top of the photos section for more on how to do that.

There are other ways to resize photos but that is the easiest to be going on with .

Also in a number of the above posts, there is a mention of linking files, what does this mean, and does it have to be done every time you upload files.

Sorry if I am being a bit dim, but its starting to all look a bit complicated for my non computer brain.
This site has 2 places, the forum and the gallery. You can't upload your photos to the forum but you can link to your photos and the gallery is the place you can put your photos on the net so that's the place you upload your photos too.

I hope you see the difference now.

To show your photos here on the forum you will need to place them on the web (upload them) you can use the gallery for that or use another site that will "showcase" your photos like Flickr or Photobucket for example.

Photobucket is probably the most simple one, it speaks for itself and give you the correct link with the webcodes that you can simply copy and paste to your comment.

It's easier to explain when you've an account because i can tell you how to do it now but it will mean very little to you now.

this link might help to explain things.

Many thanks, Gwyn and Stefan.
For your time and trouble.

I will now have to see what I can do, I was afraid I was going to crash the Pentax site if I did something incorrectly. Not knowing much about computer systems, makes me very anxious, about trying anything new.

All the best.

Don't worry about crashing the site, just try it out here in this topic till you got it,
And then off course share some of your photos

If you will use photobucket you will need to use the IMG code, you can just copy and paste that because photobucket provides the right codes.
it looks like this but instead of () you'll have []

(IMG)http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk244/Anvh/CMQ_0242.jpg(/IMG)

See how the link ends with .jpg and how the code "wraps" around it.

Actually if you use Photobucket you can click on the IMG code in the share this photo dialogue box, and it is instantly copied. All you then need to do is paste it into the thread on the forum.
