Upgrade their K1

I didn’t as the K 1 is such a great camera that marginal improvements will likely have little impact.
So I am waiting for a significant step involving AF performance and until that happens I will go on enjoying the wonderful K1 as is
Hopefully in the next 2 years Pentax will crack the Af limitations - they usually get there and everything from the K3 to date has been a steady imrovement so hopefully it will keep going - they have got everything licked apart from AF .

You wait till they start introducing mkII-only firmware updates...

Some people call me 'strange'.
I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.

The K-1ii has faster AF. Could do with better MF.

They didn't introduce any ground breaking MKI firmware updates so I can't see much change there tbh.
Anyway, can't see me updating my K-1, it's fine for what it is (a very good landscape camera) but any future purchase will be made elsewhere.

No cant see me updating either... But keep an open mind... I was interested in the AF improvement but totally put off by the noise reduction of the Raw file.. But would be interested by the thoughts of someone who has had it done...

The DP Review advises against the upgrade as it claims the K1 gives better images, both in noise reduction performance and jpeg colour rendering, so the improved AF comes at a cost. The comment above about Mk II only upgrades has already materialised so it would seem that the 2 year old body will not get any more, a real setback. It would seem the impetus to Pentax given when the K1 was launched has suffered at the cost of marketing gimmicks rather than building on real improvement. I know this contradicts what I said elsewhere but it is a real concern unless Pentax can launch Mk II upgrades to rectify the problems.

Are users of the MkII (or the upgrade from MkI) really experiencing significant issues or is some of this DP reviews "expert" opinion? I rarely visit DP Review itself and I haven't been following the US Pentax forum particularly closely of late but I hadn't noticed a great outcry :
I genuinely couldn't be happier with my MkII. Maybe the "issues" don't impact on my shooting style and subject matter, but the AF is better, high ISO is better, and my keeper rate is significantly higher
If I had listened to DP review in the past I would be shooing with a C or N dslr today, and everything would be sweetness and light

DPR have admitted their test of the K1 II was flawed in a number of ways and will have to be redone.

This high ISO NR thing is the most totally overblown pile of nonsense I've ever seen! However one thing that can be confirmed is that, unsurprisingly, the IQ is not *significantly* different to the K1 in either direction. And the AF performance is only a hair on a gnats crotch better. So not really a compelling case for upgrading.

Well said that man
I'd say the AF performance is better than you've described - certainly up to at least Bee level rather than Gnat. I'd probably agree on the upgrade, for me the trade up deal was right - but it will vary for others

Sorry, I didn’t want to sound negative, and I am sure the Mk II is another great camera, but I am doubtful now of spending £450 for the upgrade as it stands. But knowing me I could think differently next week!
