underexposing

Sorry if this has been brought up before but it seems to me my K30 which I still love tends to underexpose a lot of the time compared to my previous cameras { Olympus e410/520..Panasonic g2/g5 } It is not a problem but just wondered if I need to check a setting or two. While I could try a few things apart from exposure compensation, with all the skills of the many people on this site I thought it may be a lot easier to ask for some tips on this matter...........
Many thanks.
Dave.

All my Pentax DSLR's have underexposed by varying amounts. The K-5II seems the closest so far buy I still use + EV compensation most of the time.

Saying that my Canon 7D is even worse and needs more compensation than the K-5II.

There are a couple of metering aspects which might be affecting things also. For a number of subject types switching to 'Centre-weighted' can have a significant effect.

But there is a menu item that links the active AF point to the exposure system more directly - on my K7 it is termed 'Link AF point to AE exposure', something like that. For average toned subjects activating this function will have the effect of slightly brightening exposure, as any brighter outer areas are given less weight in the exposure balancing. You may find this helpful and you may not need permanent + EC.
