Marc, what lens are you using? I notice in the exif you fired at 600mm
Algi has the correct answer on the lens used, so that means you will (on occasion) see a very odd FL between 500mm and 600mm. With such small subjects it's almost always 600mm. I've also photographed them from just over 2 meters away using the 300/2.8 and the Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 TC.

From posts made by Marc on Pentaxforums it's almost certainly the Pentax FA* 250-600mm f/5.6
with a K10D as well who needs a K-5

Sorry to read about your mountain bike accident Marc... Get Well Soon!!
Hi Algi,

I've learned the limits on the K10D and I can assure you that I push the camera regularly beyond it's limits - that in itself is good and bad. The good is that it teaches you betters skills on adapting to the limitation(s) of the situation and/or equipment. The bad is not seeing as many "keepers".There will be a K-5 in my future, no doubt!

Thanks Algi: I'm still healing, although half the sutures are now out. Lesson learned on that race: don't fall while crossing a stream and rip open your forearm/elbow into submerged rocks. I found out after that it is also a discharge site for a local water treatment plant! Considering how banged up I was, I'm thankful for recovery being relatively quick and no broken bones. As my sister said, "good thing it wasn't your face". A very sobering thought.

Regards,
Marc
