Trying out the 35mm macro

I don't post here in this section often, but thought these needed an airing for C&C.

Taken this morning in dubious light with 35mm f2.8 macro and cropped for detail.

I like the garlic.
The background is better in the second, but DOF isn't quite enough for the flower head so overall I prefer the first. Nice to see the comparison of the two apertures - was this with a tripod & same focus?
Cherry blossom looks too contrasty to me. It's a difficult subject that might actually look better in a dreamy soft focus...

No. 1 and 3 (the second ramsons flower) for me. Agree with Mike re the cherry blossom - suspect you've used on-board flash which looks too harsh/flat.

What's the minimum focus distance on the DA35mm-Ltd HG?

I took a pretty similar shot as you're first yesterday (your's is considerably sharper mind...) with the Samsung-DFA-100...
