Trying out my 'new' M50 1.7 lens

Hi
This is my first time posting a pic, and please bear in mind I am new to all this and still very much in the learner category (always had a p&s or bridge camera before, but glad I made the move to dslr).

This is a cropped pic that was taken with the pentax-m 50mm 1.7 lens I only got yesterday. The subject is my baby jungle carpet python called George, and I am quite pleased with the result as the conditions were less than ideal, it was dimly lit and inside his vivarium and I couldn't use a flash as it frightens him.

I hope you like it, and I do warmly welcome constructive criticism and take all tips on board Comment Image

Looks like your python is interested in your M 50 1.7. The photo demonstrates two things: the lens is good, the photographer is courageous! I think you have a really nice shot there - good depth of field. I wonder what it might have been like with a dark background?

Keep up the good work,

Ronnie

I like the suggestion of a dark background, I will give it a go and I'm not sure about courageous, bless him if you saw him in real life he is only 32 inches long, just a few months old with a head about the size of my thumb (and I have small girly hands, being a girl and all that!)

Thank you for the lovely comment too, I am rather happy with the lens and how this pic turned out

Thanks Stuey and yeah they do, but he isn't one of those super large pythons so won't grow to a silly size, (I have a royal python as well who is pretty much fully grown at around 4 feet). The scaleys are soooo much easier to look after than my three big daft dogs (thats one of them in my profile pic), yep puppies do indeed grow up, but I love them all to bits

Thanks for the nice comments, I appreciate it

The image is sharp / well focussed and I know from experience that the Pentax 50mm F1.7 lenses are fantastic. Try using it for some (human) portraits with the aperture set wide and I'm sure you will get some great results.
