trouble with my espio 110

I have an Espio 110 camera, had it for years with no problems but yesterday it stopped working. I just found this site when I was searching the net for info about the camera.
I took one photo but it wouldn't take another. It just made a little whirring/clicking sound, and the LCD display said H2, H1 or H0.
I couldn't even switch off the camera, it refuses to do anything at all.
Even though I managed to find the manual there was nothing in there to help except a small bit saying if there's an H or a U in the display often then your camera's probably broken!
I haven't a clue what's happening, or what other information you might need to help me, but I'd welcome any help, because I can't afford a new camera.
cheers

I have no knowledge of this camera, neither can I find any info. that directly relates to your issue on the web.

Some obvious questions first.

1: Have you replaced the battery with a new one?
2: Have you replaced the film with a new one?
3: Does the camera seem to function OK without a film being loaded?

No I haven't put a new battery in, it doesn't need one, I'm not a camera expert but that's not something I'd overlook
besides there is a display for when the battery's run down and also that doesn't have the same effect as whatever this problem is.
It seems electronic to me - whatever button you press has the same effect: a brief whirring noise then nothing happens.
I haven't tried taking the film out yet, I did think of that, but it's only halfway through and I thought I'd just switch the camera off for a while (a few days) then try again, it wouldn't be the first electronic thing to work again after that! I thought I'd nose around on the net and try and find out something while I waited.
when I have time I switch the camera on, see what happens. If it still doesn't work I'll take the film out and try another one.
But I doubt that's it - I've had a dodgy film before and it never had this effect. I dont' see how a jammed film would stop the camera switching off (I have to remove the battery to do that), or stop the zoom from working, or me from putting the flash on/off..etc.
if you have any more ideas I'd love to hear them!

Found the manual online here. It doesn't appear very comprehensive but gives me the impression that the zoom is faulty.

I've got to be honest, it sounds like the camera is gone. I'd try removing the film and putting another in, but I think that it will cost far more for a repair shop to even look at it than to fix it.

thanks, I tried to look at that manual but it's blocked by the library firewall (like so many things). It's probably the same as the one I have at home. All that says is if there is a persistant H or I on the LCD screen then the camera PROBABLY has a serious fault! You'd think they'd be less vague!
It's not just the zoom that won't work, nothing will at all, not even the on-off switch. Well if I remove the battery then put it in again, I can switch the camera on but that's all.

I am thinking that the camera can't be repaired, because these days no-one will repair anything or if you can find a repairs service they will they charge a ridiculous fortune. Which is really annoying when we're all supposed to be green and be fixing things!

It did look like a scan of the original.

You would actually be cheaper buying a second-hand model than taking it to a repair shop. Most places would want a deposit before they began. You can pick up as Espio for about £15 on eBay. You might even find one cheaper in a charity shop.

I know you said you didn't have much money, but you could get a decent digital camera second-hand for not much more.

Thanks for the comments, sorry I took so long to reply.

yeah I know it's gonna be cheaper to replace not repair, shame really, especially as we're all supposed to be going green (and I do care about that stuff, I've always been into reusing and repairing).

I plan to look and see if the camera shops I went to years ago are still around - they had a secondhand section. My dad got a decent SLR at one, lasted for years. I wouldn't trust a charity shop though - and a camera shop might even give a short guarantee with it. I can't shop on e-bay - I only go on line at the library and I don't trust their security!
