Amazing. Historical and visual delights plus technical brilliance. I love the carefully composed close detail, particularly with the library ladders. As for high ISO performance, modern cameras are getting better at this but it still needs skill in post processing to get the best out of them as you demonstrate so well here Bill.

Thanks David S, John, Serge, Gary, David T and Joe for such detailed observations and comments re these... you’ve noticed many things I hadn’t been quite able to articulate, so much appreciated as ever...

In hindsight I’ve realised that part of the joy of the afternoon I spent was the total lack of my own expectation, if you see what I mean... the whole building was a complete surprise...

David S, Gary, and David T, thank you for thoughts re composition and processing... was struck by the lightly bleached colours, as well as the natural materials, so was trying to preserve as much of that feeling as possible... as well as the strong sense of history of the place...

John, Serge, and Joe... thank you also for thoughts re the light... it was the thing that particularly struck me about the building, so glad some of that has translated... almost like a book cathedral... a quiet, but nevertheless very strong, sense of reverence... Serge, thank you also for your observation re my work in general... not something I’d thought about before, and for me very useful...

Fantastic light and tones in these, along with superb composition.
It almost feels deserted but if it's anything like when I was there years ago, I'd say it was anything but.
You can almost feel the age in these.
Great shooting 👏👏👏
That's an interesting observation and I think another fantastic reason to use a telephoto in such a place. It's one of the main reasons I tend to go telephoto when in busy holiday locations.

I would love to see more work from you Bill with long lenses.

Hi David... thanks vmuch for this... yes, agreed... I’d say my most used lens by some distance over the last 3 years or so is the 55-300 (either the PLM I have now or its previous incarnation)... very useful as you say for busy anywhere, or indeed anything (eg trees, woods, streams etc where there may be no people but you’re trying to cut out extraneous detail and tightly focus a composition)... it also (often, though not always) tends to be my starting point for ICM/Multiple Exposures... I have a lot of stuff from the last year or so of touring taken with it (and also the 24-90)... will post when I get a moment...

Thanks and best
