The TriggerTrap is an interesting gizmo which is supposed to be released in the next few months:

US$74 if you order now, $125 when it actually goes on sale.

Looks pretty interesting for US$75. It supports triggering your camera via laser or audio, among other things. Off the top of my head this would be good for high speed photography of balloons popping etc, as well as animal trap photography where you want the camera to fire when an animal passes through a laser beam.

They haven't done much testing with Pentax cameras, but it looks like it will work through the wired connection, and may even work through the IR connection.

Wouldn't the balloon burst before the sound is detected?

From what I have seen IR remote control units for Canon also work fine with a Pentax camera so it would possibly work ok.

Mike, Isn't this similar to the one you posted about sometime ago being designe and built by someone on Talk Photography. Seems they are about to release a portable version very shortly.

Looks similar but this one seems to be quite a bit cheaper.

Looks interesting, but I think they will need a reliable supplier to back them.
Preferably in the UK.

Take care.

I would have thought so as well, but you sometimes see photos of water-filled balloons and normal balloons being popped with pins and shot with bullets, and they always seem to use an audible trigger to take the photo.

This is the link to the one "Built in Lancashire" but not from
old cotton mill parts link

This one has a built in delay to fire
the camera before or after a sound!

It can fire before a sound? If it can detect something before it's happened, our notions of time are evidently wrong

yeah I think we should start looking at time as if it were bound by the same physics as FLUID dynamics... therefor you can't travel through time, but bubbles in time or cresting waves SHOULD allow you to see reflections of things in both directions relative to your current position....also means the flow of time is variable and subject to currents, not linear....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
