Transient Light and Minfulness

Phil, my other half tells me that my mind is always empty!

She has no patience tohugh and I must admit that when I get to where I'm going on my Fell Walks I sort of have a plan but when I get there I like to sit for a while and "take in the atmosphere" as I like to call it. This is the bit my other half doesn't get.
"Why don't you just take a picture for gods sake!"
"I'm waiting..."
"What for?"
"The light."
"O.F.F.S. I'LL SEE YOU AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL!"

I would never go out shooting with Miss Smeggy for that very reason. Not because I spend time meditating or waiting for some light but simply I get in a Zone and go where my gut feeling takes me.

When I go out with my shooting buddy we essentially split up and do our own thing. We'll randomly bump into each other and simultaneously agree to a coffee break, and then it's off on our own again.

I do that too with mine, rarely get to shoot with him now, when he ran the Jessops in Sunderland we'd get out regularly, now it's with the missus or not at all really.

I'm thinking of using the Green setting and letting the camera do my thinking for me

Could this image possibly have been captured on Green mode??? I'm thinking not - the exposure seems very well balanced. Unless it was a PS blending of sky / ground I can't see how a single uncontrolled frame could have created this.

It would seem the metering has been optimised to the mid to brighter tones - I don't think you'd have that control in green mode would you. You'd need at least AF-L I think before recomposing?

And if it was a PS blend, then no Green mode either - you'd need exposure compensation to shoot the different frames.

I think there's more 'thinking' here than the camera can do
