Seeing the body like this makes me wonder how long the coat will last?

After all it is just a sprayed cover, how cool would the body be left naked on the finished model!!!!
Cheers, HG

I agree, that's a concern I have too.
I would hope that the painted surface is pretty durable but I doubt that it's quite as tough as the outer shell of the K20D :
I'm thinking with respect to knocks and marks through general wear and tear.

I have come across some coated metal surfaces and they really are durable and scratch resistant. I developed a communications console for use in financial trading centres and they were used and abused 12 hours/day - cast aluminium with a powder coating spayed on and baked. Even after two years, when cleaned up, they were still in very good condition.

Ah yes polchraine, but could they resist the delicate handling of a typical ham fisted photographer hanging from a tree?

Believe me, the treatment that equipment received was severe. The substances spilled on them, coke (liquid and powder), coffee, beer, wine, urine, sweat &c &c would normally ruin most surfaces ...

I wouldn't necessarily say 'boob'

Many other manufacturers have Magnesium alloy Pro bodies that have a painted finish so to be fair it's not as if Pentax are out on a limb here is it

When I was working in another field baked on powder coated finishes were widely used in very arduous sutuations. They were very very hardwearing under conditions much worse than even the heaviest conceivable use a camera could be put to.

Come on - look at the coated metal cameras of the 70s and 80s - they still almost invariably look good! Even the ones where the metal shows through a bit look classy, compared to scuffed and chipped plastic!

A camera in mint condition is a sad camera, as it has not been used enough...lol

True, my black MX has rubbed shoulders showing the metal underneath. It looks fine, but the metal isn't shiny silver!

Maybe we should have faith in Pentax getting the finish right.

Like give the alloy a brass coating, then when the paint rubs off at least it'll look classy

The old Pentax finishes were really high grade. The only manufacturer with a better finish that I've seen is Voigtlander, who made a fantastic job on their Bessamatic of 1959.

I'm very hopeful that the new finish will be just as good if not better, as technology will no doubt have moved on.
Best regards, John
