If I'm going to be honest, I don't think this lens is going to be all that desirable for anyone that isn't a pro. From these images, the bokeh looks pretty boring (my opinion), even though the lens looks to be outstanding in its sharpness. It'll be great for low light events.

For everyday shooting, is it really much better than the DA*55?

It will be better than the DA*55/1.4 simply because the coverage is actually designed for full frame (as opposed to the happy accident of the superb DA*55) - so corner to corner sharpness will be better. I would expect CA to be better controlled (the DA*55 suffers at wider apertures but is easily PP'd), sharpness - not sure, IMO the DA*55 is ahead of other Pentax "standards" - Bokeh, who knows - it's subjective anyway but these examples (assuming they are actually taken with the D-FA*50/1.4) look good to me for situations that don't really make the best of the backgrounds.

I think it will be bought by more enthusiasts than pro's - I think it'll be cheaper than a second hand A*135 so I might be tempted

Exciting times

Given my only "full frame" cameras are manual focus I'll stick to one of my collection of "vintage" nifty fifties. I'm glad there are new lenses coming out, however, if only to show the brand isn't dead in the water.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

According to the other Pentax forum, this photographer had a pre-production DFA 50mm 1.4 for testing. He had put some pictures in an album of flickr dedicated to the lens which he has now deleted. But some of the pictures are still available in the linked flickr album "Pentax K-1 Mark II"

I guess the lens id 8-64 is the pre-production 50mm 1.4. If it was an existing lens which is recognised by the camera, that would be shown underneath the camera type.
