Thanks gents i've been the same Alan, looked at it a few times but there is always a crowd there so had a go about 8.30 last night and managed to get a clear few minutes.

An impressive angle and nice lighting make this work so well . Who'd ever think this was shot on a kit lens ?!? How did you get the effect of light coming onto the subject .... looks like he must have been mostly in shadow ?

Thanks Nigel that kit lens has produced some of my best shots. There was still a good bit of light to the front of him had to brighten up his face a little bit though.

It's a good job then with the tonal balancing .... Looking at the brightness of that sky, and your exposure for it, I assumed the front of the statue must have been in shadow. I guess you've made the most of the fairly low sun ..... In any case it all comes together beautifully
