Can you give me some more info please?

Are they K-mount or thread mount? By how much will these increase the focal length of a lens - for example the DA*50-135?

These are K mount.

Also extension tubes do not change the focal length of the lens or the optical quality as they have no lens elements. They allow the lens to focus closer than it's design, but as a trade off you can not focus to infinity.

Thanks for the explanation Chris. I'm showing my beginner status here...

While I was originally thinking I could increase the focal length of my lenses, being able to focus closer may also be useful. I read through the info from the link you provided and it seems there are a few question marks over their compatibility with lenses.

Do you have any experience of using these on a DA*16-50 or 50-135?

Which part of the uk are you in. If its close enough then I will probably be interested

We've all got to start someware, looks as if you've got a good kit to learn on.

To increase the focal length of a lens you need a tele-converter, Pentax don't produce one currently but talked about introducing one a while ago - they had it on their lens roadmap but was taken off.

Don't have either of these lens but my understanding is that you need to have an apiture ring on the lens to use them as there are no electrical contacts on these extension tubes. Therefore i do not believe they are compatable with the current DA range of lenses

I only used these a couple of times on a FA50 F1.4 and an old 200mm F3.5 manual lens i picked up for about £10 on ebay, this worked well because both lens have an apperture rings and the 200mm lens had a long travel focus ring helping to get the focus easier.

Thanks for the reply and even more info, especially as you've done yourself out of a sale. I understand what you're saying r.e. lack of aperture ring, you're right - they won't be any good with either lens...

R.e. my kit - yes, nice to learn on - too nice really. I'd not intended upgrading from the kit lens until I had more experience but recent price rises spurred me to make the lens purchases a year or so early.

No problem, Orginally bought them to try out macro photography and being fully manual learned quite a bit about the basics of photography that i had not picked up before using the auto and semi auto functions of my camera and lenses.

Think pentax sold a lot of kit before the price rises, i got a DA* 60-250mm recently which i am really enjoying
