Tiny Feet - Crop added

Law of averages says if I take enough photos, there's gotta be a couple of good ones amongst them This is one from last night, playing around with our 1 1/2 week old son.




K10D, Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 @ 70mm, ISO 250, F5.6, 1/4 sec, supported on the side of his bassinett.

I think it's a bit busy, the stitching on the blanket is detracting attention from the toes.

I think it's really good!

Justgetoutandride - I liked the rug around it, but each to their own - I'm far from a pro

The pics weren't deliberatly set up, he was just sleeping, and I noticed his toes had come unwrapped, so took some snaps. The only thing I did was move the bassinet slightly and open curtains to get more light, I didn't touch the feet or blanket around them.

I'm sure I'll get more chances with different blankies, I'll have to make a note over my next two weeks of holidays to put him down with different blankies, with and without stitchings, to see what looks best!

Really wish I had a tripod rather than having to prop against the bassinet for the slow shutter!

However, I think that the stitching on the left complements the toes nicely. It's the stuff on the right that is perhaps superfluous.

It's nice as it is, but cropping the right would be an improvement.

First shot was uncropped - Here's a crop.

As a photographer, I see a stronger composition in the cropped version.
can't fault that really. As a parent, I think the first one holds it's own, as the feet look more delicate and tiny, in the folds of blanket, adding a sense of scale to the image that adds to the emotional impact of the shot.
I like the first version better.
I suppose you could, (while we're experimenting here) ...try using a slight soft focus vignette on the first one and see how that would look?

I agree with Don, the second one is a better compostiton, but the first one emphasises how tiny the feet are, and I think it is lovely.
Congrats on your son btw! What's his name?
