Hi Susan
Lots of remotes to choose from. My first remote was an IR, but after using it I switched to a cable release which I still use now. I hope the below may help. Look for some reviews to get more info. All of the below will work with bulb mode.
Waterproof remote control Pentax O-RC1 is new model, and I think if I were to buy an IR, i would go for this
If you have £60 the Hahnel Giga T Pro - 2.4GHz Wireless Timer Remote Control will do everything
If you decide on cable look at the Pentax Cable Switch CS-205

Very versatile and sometimes available at a very good discount.

I use one of these and find they offer so much more then just the remote option.
You will need a Type 5 remote and it is available. Best is get in touch with the seller just before you buy so he knows what to send to you if you choose to get one of them.
Never regretted my one and look forward to do nice sunsets on holiday.

A digital wired remote would be the handiest, you can give it a specific time or it shows a times when you press the button.

That's a good question i know some stores in the Netherlands that have them but I don't shop in the UK so i don't know.
I know you can find them on ebay or else you can buy them here and let them ship over.
They are around €60 (around 50 pound) in the stores.

The features are the same, i've no idea if there is a differnce in build quality?
I also only see the aputure for £69 on ebay but that's too expensive this a far better price link
The canon 450D, 500D & 550D use the same connection as the Pentax camera's
ps. i see a differnce aputure can only be set up to max 399 photos and the other one to 999

All I can say about the one I have got is that it is well build and £ for £ I would get it again.
I did my resarch on those for a couple of month and came across quite a few but the on I have got is working without any fail.
What also was good was that I got 14 days full money back if I would not be happy. Tried this one with a couple of other sellers and it was a big NO NO (one actually stated that he would as of that date no longer deal with me because of the money back question if it not what I expected. Forwarded this reply to email and he is now listed as 'account no longer in use' or something to this respect).
If you are interested in the one I forwarded in the link, contact the seller first, explain what you want it for and if he would offer a full money back guarantee if you find that this is not the one you wanted (I am sure he will do it for you as well, just remember feeBay's 1000 character limit!).
Got mine within 3 days and its one of the best I ever have had tried out for one of the best price.
